Marine Co‑ordination Software for Offshore Windfarms - E.ON

details

WF‑OPS is Inflecto’s marine co‑ordination and offshore workforce management platform for windfarm operations and maintenance. It was originally delivered in co‑operation with E.ON to support maintenance teams at Robin Rigg windfarm in the Solway Firth. Inflecto retained the solution IP and continues to operate WF‑OPS as a managed service, evolving the platform for wider adoption across additional sites.

The challenge

Offshore maintenance is logistically complex. Operators need to ensure that everyone travelling offshore is correctly trained and inducted, that team movements are planned and coordinated, and that the location of personnel within the windfarm is always known.

E.ON required a tool to help:

  • Manage training and induction requirements for site access
  • Build and track offshore teams
  • Coordinate transfers from port to turbines and back
  • Maintain visibility of workforce location within the windfarm
  • Support safe, compliant, and efficient O&M operations

What we delivered

A web-based platform consisting of two dedicated portals, each designed around a specific operational workflow.

Training & induction portal (engineer-facing)

This portal is used by engineers to complete the assessments required for site access, ensuring workforce readiness before transfer offshore.

  • Training and induction assessment workflows
  • Clear visibility of completion status and requirements
  • Helps ensure only suitably qualified personnel are scheduled to go offshore

Marine co‑ordination portal (operations-facing)

This portal is used to create teams and manage the end-to-end transfer process — from the port to specific turbines and back again.

  • Team creation and management
  • Planning and tracking transfers offshore and return journeys
  • Operational visibility to support coordination and decision-making
  • Ensures the location of the offshore workforce within the windfarm is always known

Managed Service Delivery Model

WF‑OPS has been in use since 2019. Inflecto retained ownership of the software and continues to operate it as a managed service — providing responsive support, ongoing improvements, and a roadmap to extend functionality and onboard additional windfarms onto the platform.

This model gives clients the benefits of a proven operational system without the overhead of owning and maintaining the platform themselves, while ensuring the solution continues to evolve with real-world O&M needs.
